TEST SHOOTS

Here are various test shoots I have done before the final shoot. There are various experiments done so I know what goes well, and what needs to improve.

In the first gif, I am trying to create a 'bokeh' effect. All I did was change the focus setting from auto to manual and turn.

The bokeh effect creates a dreamy like atmosphere, almost confusing as there is lack of focus in frame.

However, the quality of the clip is too low, as there is a significant amount of noise. To do this, we will either need to film in a light area, have artificial light or change the setting of the camera to have a darker clip, so the noise will be reduced. ( Lowering ISO, to make it darker whereas the higher the ISO, the brighter the clip but the more nosie.

The following images are used with macro filters. I wanted to see how different the quality can be on photo and video mode. I decided to take pictures in the garden because of the contrast of colours of both the flowers and the greenery.

The macro filters create a soft effect as well as detailed images. The third image shows the hairs standing. The depth of field and also the sharpness of the image creates an opposite effect. I could use the images of the human body as one of my covers for the digipak, as the album is something that is close to the artist, and the extreme close-ups of the body could show a sign of trust to the audience .

On the right, I have a plan for the test shoot. Right below this, are the gifs of the videos shot.

I have used the macro filters ( the same as macro lenses but cheaper) and the Canon 600D as my camera. I want to create intimate scenes for the beginning of the song so that the audience can portray this video to be very intimate. The extreme close-ups of the skin/face, in the bathtub can make people uncomforatble as they may not have seen skin/faces in this 'range'

The macro filters used are in the size x2,x4,x1,x10. I have used them all together to create an extreme macro effect. The difficulties of using macro filters is trying to focus, as I had to be really close to my subject to make them in focus. I was also shaky in some of the shots because I did not know if my shots were in focus or not. The flipable screen made the job easier as I was able to flip the screen on the left( literally) and shoot.

I shot during daytime, in the toilet, where the windows are facing the bathtub so the light can hit the character's face. However, the light was not strong enough as it was a cloudy day and also, the day is shorter so shooting time can be limited.

The final

So to conclude, these are the following things I would do in my real shoot( after the some what successful test shoot:

  • Film either very early in the morning but probably not. So film at night, with external lighting. ( Depending on the light in the toilet, if it is too ellow toned, will use have to use extra lights but if it is 'white', we will only have to use minimal lighting so the subject can be lit. Also we can use filters on the external lights to add a bit more colour.

  • Use a stabliser. To ensure that the shots are not shaky, and help with the smoothness of any movements( such as pans etc)

  • Clothing wise, maybe minimal clothing like a bikini but not in bright colours.
